Description
Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of inpatient and community-based mental health care services to people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, city of Salford, Trafford and Wigan and a wide range of specialist mental health and addiction services across Greater Manchester and beyond. We are one of the largest specialist Mental Health Trusts in England, employing around 7,000 members of staff delivering services from 122 locations including hospital sites, community facilities and in prisons. We are also the most research-active Mental Health Trust in the country. Promoting parity of esteem for mental health with physical health, we are shifting our focus to prevention, early intervention, and resilience in our communities, to deliver a sustainable and integrated mental health system through collaboratively working with our partners across Greater Manchester.
Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is now seeking an exceptional digital leader to join our unitary Board (non-voting) and Executive Leadership Team as Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO), reporting to our CEO Karen Howell OBE. This is a pivotal role at the heart of our digital transformation journey - leading innovation, data strategy, and IT operations to improve mental health care and patient outcomes. As CDIO, you will drive the Trust’s digital vision and strategy, as we further advance our digital capabilities and become a data-driven, digitally mature organisation aligned with both national priorities and local community needs. You will oversee the strategic use of digital technologies, cyber security, and the continued optimisation of our Electronic Patient Record, while enabling inclusive digital access and smarter ways of working across clinical and corporate services.
This is a unique opportunity to influence care at scale, collaborate with system partners across Greater Manchester and nationally, and position GMMH as a centre of excellence for digital mental health innovation.
Essential Criteria

- Proven success of leading, inspiring and developing high-performing and cross-functional technical teams, establishing and owning key performance indicators whilst raising performance levels and developing critical capabilities
- Proven ability to establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with all colleagues, partners and diverse stakeholders (ideally at Board level) to deliver impact with excellent communication and influencing skills
- Working knowledge of emerging digital trends and technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital health innovation (ideally), including regulatory and ethical considerations.
- Working knowledge and understanding of industry standard security issues and processes
- Experience in supplier management, with the ability to establish and improve supplier performance standards and deliver value for money.
