Non Executive Recruitment

Welcome from Rupert Nichols, Chair

Thank you for your interest in joining Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

I hope the information here helps you learn more about our organisation, our achievements, challenges, ambitions, and values. We are one of the largest specialist mental health providers in the country, supporting service users across our local, specialist, substance misuse and prison populations. We employ over 6,400 whole time equivalent (WTE) staff and provide services from over 160 locations across the North West of England, as well as working with people in their homes and local communities. We offer:

  • Local mental health services to the people of Bolton, Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan
  • Substance misuse services to people in Bolton, Salford, Trafford, Bury and Cumbria
  • Services to over 8,000 people in prisons and secure accommodation in the North West of England
  • Highly specialised mental health services for the region and wider NHS in England

Our new Non Executive Directors will work closely with me and both Board and Governor colleagues at a time of ground-breaking change in health and social care services in Greater Manchester, and unprecedented challenge as we continue to respond and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We play a key role in delivering the Mental Health Strategy across Greater Manchester working with our stakeholders in the public, independent and third sectors as well as with the communities we serve. We are immensely proud of the work we have done to raise the profile of the Mental Health agenda in the region, and the need for parity of esteem with physical health services now being recognised. We also have a number of exciting programmes of transformation underway, including the £105 million of investment to rebuild our adult mental health unit in North Manchester. We know the pandemic has had a significant impact on the mental wellbeing of our populations and the need for our services will continue to increase in the coming months and years.

At this critical time, we are looking to appoint three Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to our Board of Directors to bring independent and fresh perspectives in addition to complementary skills and experience. We are seeking leaders who are innovative, can adapt to changing circumstances and add value in an environment with significant organisational and system uncertainty and complexity. Focused on ensuring high quality services, our NEDs bring our values to life, promote the highest standards of integrity and corporate governance, ensuring that quality, finance, and operational demands are held in balance.

For these appointments we are interested in a range of skills and keen to hear from individuals who have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Finance; Primary Care; Workforce Planning and Development; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Strategic Estates management and Digital Innovation. These posts would all benefit from candidates who have experience of working at board level in complex organisations.  We also highly value the diversity and lived experience of our Board members and we welcome interest from those who can bring their fresh perspective and experience to our strategic discussions.

We are an ambitious and values led organisation and this is an exciting time to join a dynamic and high performing Trust. I hope these opportunities are attractive to you and I encourage you to contact Joanna Riley, Michelle Shirley or Emma Pickup at GatenbySanderson on 07807 624332 for a confidential discussion in the first instance.

I look forward to meeting you during the process.
